Understanding Performance Measurement is a comprehensive one-day course that explains and illustrates the measurement techniques used in IPD's comparative analysis of the real estate portfolio. The course is mainly workshop-based, giving participants the chance to work through examples of all the calculations and get a hands-on understanding of IPD’s outputs. The course also provides fresh insights into how to get the best from IPD's portfolio analysis reports, by examining the data inputs used and analysis methods in detail. It explains how different performance measures relate to each other, and will give your organisation a better understanding of IPD’s reports.

How to measure property performance. An introduction to the general principles of measuring the performance of investment assets. Calculating performance for single time periods. How to calculate the basic performance building blocks; total return, income return and capital growth. Creating performance time series. Generating longer term performance measures by compounding numbers for single time periods.Benchmarking. Calculating the performance of a fund or group of properties relative to a benchmark for a particular market, sector or region.Attribution analysis. The theory and calculation of attribution analysis scores, one of the most powerful performance analysis techniques. Decomposing capital growth.
