Canadian Directory of Shopping Centres- lists over 2,200 Canadian shopping centres with 30,000 sq. ft. of gross leasable area and non-traditional retail areas such as subway stations, hospitals, hotels, universities, colleges and airports.

Centre for the Study of Commercial Activity, Ryerson Polytechnic University- The CSCA has targeted three broad areas where development is needed to help Canada's commercial/retail industries encourage a greater rate of innovation, enhance their quality of service, and improve their competitive economic performance. These broad areas are organized around the perceived need by the stakeholders and sector for:

  • a comprehensive database on the state of commercial and retail activities in Canada;
  • recognition of the importance of commercial/retail industries as a major economic sector meriting sustained serious research investigation;
  • educational and strategic information resources to help businesses contend with dramatic changes in consumer behaviour, intense international competition, and the impact of new technologies.

International Council of Shopping Centres- The following publications can be found on ICSC's website, where a link is provided to the Research web page:

  • "Research Quarterly" - Available on the web exclusively to ISCS members. Quarterly issues going back to Fall 1996 can also be retrieved.
  • "Retail Perspective" - This monthly publication is available exclusively to ICSC members. All previous issues, starting with July 2000, can be downloaded.
  • "Monthly Reports" - The current and previous releases of ICSC's four monthly reports can be accessed. This includes:

  • "White Papers" - White Papers are posted throughout the year addressing specific topics that impact the shopping centre industry
  • "Scope Canada" and "Scope USA" - Both releases are annual compilations of basic shopping centre statistics: gross leasable area, retail sales, number of centers by size and category, employment, construction starts, number of adults shopping monthly and more. Tables include a national and province-by-province or state-by-state format.
  • Databases such as "Mall Openings, 2000-2002" and "Retail Scorecard" - Retail Scorecard is a quick guide to many multi-chain retail companies that have stores in malls and neighbourhood, community and power centres. It can be searched by company or store name, retail category or area(s) of operation.

Altus InSite- Information and Perspective for Canada's Commercial Real Estate Community

Altus InSite Research gathers building-by-building and suite-by-suite information on the existing office buildings in Canada's seven major markets which each contain more than 20,000 sf of office space. The data collection team updates this information through direct contact with real estate brokers, property managers and various other data contacts who have direct responsibility for the space or buildings in question. Altus InSite Research collects data on available and vacant space indicators and uses this information to calculate Total Available and Total Vacant Rates at the building level as well as summary totals at the Class, Node, District and Market level.
